Utilization of Internet Memes: Political Social Context and religion in the Governor Election DKI Jakarta 2017

Abstract

Lately, the use of internet and social media in Indonesia context is being considered as a public expressive response. One of the expressions of the response is being expressed in a form of meme. Memes has become a public discourse which is connected to a social political situation of The Governor of Jakarta election, which later becoming a massive and viral issues on the instagram. This is inseparable from the socio-political and religious context and the opening of political communication channels with the current social media presence. This research was conducted using qualitative methods by observing online the development of memes and comments surrounding them. Conduct interviews with meme creators and several experts. The 2017 DKI Jakarta Governor Election is a regional head election with such sharp competition and its supporters not only come from the DKI Jakarta region but have national scale from various regions in Indonesia.
