Fatwa MUI, Kontrol Sosial dan Hatespeech di Ruang Digital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research examines the correlation between the Indonesian Ulema Council’s (MUI) fatwa on hatespeech in social media and social control theory. Four elements of social control theory—attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief—are used to analyze how the MUI fatwa influences individuals’ behavior in social media use. The MUI fatwa aims to strengthen individuals’ attachments to social norms that oppose hatespeech and negative actions in the digital world. Furthermore, it endeavors to build commitment among individuals to these social norms. Additionally, the MUI fatwa fosters individuals’ beliefs in these social norms. Overall, this study presents the relationship between the MUI fatwa and social control theory in an effort to reduce hatespeech in digital space
