Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on different perspectives on religion and belief. Many policies in limiting social interaction have been issued. One of them is maintaining distance, which is important in breaking the chain of transmission of COVID-19. However, there is a more extreme perspective in some societies in Indonesia. One of them is the Madurese community in general, who have more faith in the destiny or fate that has been determined. This has implications for the level of compliance in carrying out health protocols. The method used here is normative juridical and uses qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of the analysis show that a person's level of religiosity on government policy compliance in carrying out health protocols has little effect. However, it was found that the biggest influence was the lack of literacy levels. This has implications for understanding what the scholars say in dealing with the problem of disease outbreaks, resulting in misunderstandings in acting on government policies
