Studi Komparatif terhadap Yayasan Kesejahteraan Tunanetra Islam (Yaketunis) dan Yayasan Kristen Panti Asih Pakem

Abstract

Social piety for religious people can be realized in many ways. One of them is the establishment of institutions that focus on and care for marginalized communities such as persons with disabilities. Religious institutions that care for and empower persons with disabilities include the Islamic Welfare Foundation for the Blind (Yaketunis) and the Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation. This research is a qualitative research with historical and sociological approaches. Observation, interview, and documentation were used as data collection methods. The following are the results of this study: (1) The establishment of Yaketunis and the Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation were both motivated by concern for people with disabilities. (2) Yaketunis and Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation provide various forms of empowerment and services, such as: education, religion, provision of aids, and skills courses. (3) Both Yaketunis and Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation both provide care for persons with disabilities. The differences between the two foundations are: (a) Yaketunis empowers people with visual impairments more while the Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation empowers people with mental disabilities. (b) Yaketunis only empowers people with disabilities who are Muslim, while the Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation empowers people with disabilities at all levels. (c) Yaketunis empowerment is more focused on education and religion, but the Panti Asih Pakem Christian Foundation is more diverse, covering many dimensions.
