Abstract
This paper investigates the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) assisted architectural delineation and the ethical and aesthetic foundations of Islamic architectural thought. As generative AI and algorithmic design tools become increasingly integrated into architectural workflows, their application raises critical questions regarding cultural alignment, moral responsibility, and the preservation of spiritual intent in design practices. Within this context, the study argues that the adoption of AI in architecture must extend beyond technical efficiency and innovation to engage meaningfully with established ethical and value-based frameworks. The research explores strategies for embedding core Islamic ethical principles, namely justice (ʿAdl), beneficence (Ihsan), and self-accountability (Muhasabah), into AI-driven design and visualization processes. These principles are examined as evaluative and operational criteria that guide responsible technological agency and informed decision-making within computational design environments. In parallel, the paper examines the potential for encoding traditional Islamic aesthetic values, including geometric order, proportional harmony, patterned repetition, and the integration of natural elements, into algorithmic systems. By translating these principles into computational parameters, AI-generated architectural outcomes can remain culturally grounded while supporting creative exploration and formal innovation. The study further addresses concerns related to authorship, cultural continuity, and the shifting role of the architect in AI-mediated design processes. It proposes a conceptual framework for assessing AI-enabled architectural tools based on ethical accountability, aesthetic coherence, and the maintenance of human intentionality. Rather than positioning AI as an autonomous design authority, the paper emphasizes its role as a supportive instrument that augments human creativity and critical judgment. Ultimately, this research contributes to ongoing discourse on responsible AI adoption in architecture by demonstrating how emerging technologies can be aligned with the qualitative social, cultural, and ethical dimensions inherent in Islamic architectural traditions, ensuring that innovation does not come at the expense of identity, meaning, or moral integrity.
