Abstract
The rapid advancement of technology demands a transformation in Islamic novel teaching environments. This study investigates the implementation of digitalized Islamic Education (PAI) laboratories in higher education, focusing on the opportunities, challenges, and smart learning strategies required in the digital era. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through literature reviews, observations, and thematic analysis of digital laboratory frameworks. The findings reveal that digitalized PAI laboratories offer significant opportunities, such as enhanced engagement through interactive multimedia, virtual reality for Hajj simulations, and AI-driven Islamic history archives. However, critical challenges persist, including limited technological infrastructure, a digital divide among institutions, and the urgent need for lecturer digital literacy upskilling. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a 'Smart PAI Lab' framework integrating hybrid learning models and adaptive technology. In conclusion, transforming traditional PAI labs into digital hubs is no longer optional but essential to maintaining the relevance of Islamic education. This study provides actionable recommendations for stakeholders to standardize digital PAI laboratory curriculums across Indonesia.
