Effectiveness of Assessing Religions in Increasing the sense of Tolerance in the Study of Religions, Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar

Abstract

Religious pluralism is an inseparable thing because in Indonesia there are six major religions namely Islam, Catholics, Protestants, Hindus, Buddhists and Confucians. The number of religions in Indonesia, the thing that cannot be denied is that there are good differences from aspects of understanding, habits or traditions and so on so that is possible the occurrence of inter-religious conflict. Although basically everything religion teaches the importance of peace and harmony between people religious, and all religions hate the existence of conflict. One of the factors inhibiting the existence of religious tolerance is a lack of understanding towards the religion they embrace and the religion adopted by others. By therefore, the community needs an understanding of religion and religion that is adopted by others, in order to foster a sense of tolerance and mutual appreciate. An interesting fact is that the method of studying religionsInterreligious is one way to increase tolerance. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the method of studying religion Interreligious in increasing tolerance especially for student of Religion Studies, UIN Alauddin Makassar. That method used in this study is quantitative, using questionnaire instrument given to students of Religion Studies, UIN Alauddin Makassar. The results of the study show that by method Interreligious, students can directly interact with different people understanding or belief. In addition, students are more open and respecting the views of others by way of dialogue with religious perspectives his religion and religious perspective are studied interchangeably. So it can be concluded that the method of studying religions in a way Interreligious is very effective in increasing tolerance and mutual respect for students of Religion Studies, UIN Alauddin Makassar.
