Sufism
Abstract
This research article was written with the aim to find a Sufism relation to populist Islamic movements which later emerged in the world community, especially in Indonesia. The populist Islam that is meant here is the Islamic movement which is driven by young people and industrial circles who try to present Islam in symbols of clothing / appearance, statement and lifestyle. By some people this populist Islamic movement, known as the "New Hijrah" generation. The research method used in the writing of this article is a descriptive analysis method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through the study of populist Islam appearance on social media (as a primary data source) and then combined with various real phenomena in the field (as secondary data). Data collection techniques are carried out by: 1) collecting social media information related to the life of the "New Hijrah" generation; 2) observing phenomena closer to the lives of those who look populist Islam; and, 3) Conduct in-depth interviews with the "New Hijrah" generation. The collected data was then critically analyzed by linking the ideals of moderating Islam in Indonesia with the phenomenon displayed by the "New Hijrah" generation. Based on the results of the analysis of the data obtained, it can be concluded that there is no interrelated relationship between Sufism and the Islamic movement in society, especially those shown by the recent "New Hijrah" generation. However, the urgency of Sufism as the coach of the "New Hijrah Islam Populist" movement became an absolute role, as well as a challenge for Sufism in the era of disruption, considering that this movement was seen further away from the moderation of Islam that was wanted to be developed in Indonesia. Furthermore, the formulation of Sufism propagation patterns in the face of millennial generation needs to be done immediately.
