Abstract

The lyrics of a song are easy to memorize and can be retained for a long time. Songs are one of the mediums that can be used in the language learning process. Songs are practical tools in learning activities. There are numerous MP3 music players available, including mobile phones, which are inseparable from the daily lives of students. This research was conducted to determine the steps and effectiveness of using song media in teaching Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) in the eleventh grade at MAN 2 Sleman. This study is a quantitative research using a quasi-experimental design. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, documentation, tests, observations, and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using the statistical formula of the independent samples t-test. The research findings indicate that: 1) The steps in using song media for teaching Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) in the eleventh grade at MAN 2 Sleman are executed in two ways, through songs prepared by the teacher and songs created by the students. 2) The use of song media in teaching Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) is highly effective in improving the academic performance of eleventh-grade students at MAN 2 Sleman. This is evidenced by the calculated t-value of 6.950 and the significance value obtained after testing the difference between the post-test and pre-test scores for understanding mufradat in the experimental and control groups using the statistical formula of the independent samples t-test, which is 0.000, smaller than both 0.01 and 0.05.
